7 Foolproof Beginner Crochet Projects

Are you a beginner to crochet and would like to start diving into simple but fun and functional projects? Sometimes you need some small wins to get you going when you are learning a new skill (I know I do!). So here is a list of foolproof beginner crochet projects that I feel are both nice to look at and functional! Although I have not tried all of these myself, they ARE on my “to try soon” list!

Coasters

You may be wondering if people still use coasters…yes we do! Nobody likes water ring stains on their furniture (especially if you bought it with your hard earned money) so why not make some simple coasters to protect your stuff! Create them in any colors you like!

Dishcloths

There will always be kitchens needing dishcloths. Even if you have a dishwasher, you still end up with plates, bowls, or cups etc that need an extra wipe down. Dishcloths are valuable, especially for households that are trying to reduce waste. What’s not to like about an absorbent dishcloth you can easily make, use, and clean?! Especially if it looks cool!

Bookmarks

Calling all book lovers! I recently made a cute bookmark using a new stitch I learned and I love it! One word of caution, you will want to use a thin yarn for this so your bookmark isn’t too chunky.

Granny squares

The cornerstone of crochet (in my opinion). Once you can get the granny square down, you can do just about anything! From bags to blankets and more, there is so much you can do with a collection of granny squares as your skills grow.

Simple beginner crochet blanket

I started with simple blankets and it’s what sparked my love for crochet. Making blankets does take time and can feel repetitive but once it’s done…well, nothing beats that feeling of accomplishment!

  3. I wish I learned to crochet sooner—it’s weirdly calming once you get past the part where it feels like you’re wrestling a spaghetti monster. Now I just sit there like a grandma and vibe.

    1. Wrestling with the yarn is not fun. Or when you pull from the center and this big glob of “yarn barf” comes out. Uuugh! Definitely relaxing vibes. Crochet is definitely part of my self care routine 🙂

  4. I’m an on-again off off-again crocheter, and I fully agree with this list. These are all great projects for beginners – although I will admit that I have yet to get granny squares down pat, they start off well, but they go wrong at some point. One day, I will get the hang of them.
