Crochet as Self Care
It’s a busy world out there and stress seems to be our new norm, but it doesn’t have to be. Finding a hobby that brings joy and encourages creativity is a wonderful way to add purpose in your life. Not trying to sound like a commercial, but crochet has been one of the hobbies that is keeping me sane in my busy life right now!
Need An Escape
Life gets busy. You have a full-time job or are a caregiver. You are just on your own trying to stay afloat. Any of this sound like you? We all need something that lets us escape reality for a while. Crochet can be one of those hobbies for you! Use crochet as self care!
Crochet Is Therapy
I absolutely love to crochet as self care. It’s one of my forms of therapy! There’s just something about picking up the hook and yarn, and making something that I enjoy and will love. You focus is directly on the project you are making. Thoughts wander but always come back to the hook and yarn. Although, if you are frustrated, it’s best not to try and learn a very complicated stitch. Frustrating yourself further is not the way to calm down! Remember, it’s all about self care!
Easy Does It
Simple patterns are easy wins to boost your mood and self esteem. Cute little amigurumi, face scrubbies, dishtowels, etc are all quick patterns that are also cute and/or functional. I love these types of patterns because it’s a fast way to feel accomplished and boost your self esteem.

Once you have learned the basic stitches, you can make so many easy items. For example a cozy blanket, scarf, even socks!
Its Cheaper Than You Think
You don’t have to go and buy out a yarn or craft store. Honestly I prefer to not to buy yarn until I know what I’m making. Now, I don’t have a room in my living space that I can dedicate to crafts or just yarn storage! But don’t get me wrong! If I see something in the craft store that I absolutely love, I will want to try and use it. I will definitely pick it up!
Sticking to a budget helps reduce financial stress. If the craft stores are too expensive for your budget, check thrift stores or your local online swap groups. You can sometimes find great deals. Some people are just trying to offload a family member’s yarn stash. Maybe their family members don’t crochet anymore!
I’m not trying to advertise for anyone, but don’t rule out other crocheters! If you have a favorite crocheter, they may have an affiliate relationship with a yarn supplier. You can benefit by getting some of your favorite yarn at a discount using their promos and codes.
