Fall Crochet Trends
Introduction
It’s Fall so let’s chat about some crochet trends and inspiration for this time of year! I LOVE the crisp air, leaves changing color, etc. I live in New England (US) so it’s a beautiful time of year here! Also my allergies calm down and all the mosquitos can go back to hell where they belong! LOL!

Always Trending
There are some things that never stop trending in the Fall:
- Earthy colors
- Sweaters
- Socks
- Scarves
- Hats
- Mittens for chilly days
- Leg warmers
- Chunkier textures
- Throws and blankets
One thing I’ve noticed so far this fall is that the color burgundy is starting to show up more in many things in fashion. It’s a fantastic color, especially when paired with the right pieces. It’s great for closet staples and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The obvious seasonal colors of reds, yellows, oranges and browns come out more often as well.

Layers
When the temperature starts getting cooler, leaves start falling off of trees, and nature is getting ready to hibernate until Spring, I immediately start layering my wardrobe. Layering is easiest this time of year since you don’t know if you’re going to step into an overly air conditioned space or one that feels like a furnace when going out! In New England, the weather constantly changes, so layers are a necessity!
Many people think that adding more layers means we are forced to start having boxy and/or unflattering silhouettes, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Layers can still be comfortable and trendy without sacrificing shape and style. Nobody is asking you to wear a burlap sack and you don’t have to feel like you are wearing one either! Tasteful styles that draw attention to your natural shape are perfect for layering.
Modern Styles
Modern styles tend to come out more in fall trends as well as in crochet styles and patterns. Ribbed and sweater dresses, peplum style tops, and cardigans/sweaters can all update your wardrobe in the Fall.
Crafting Community Trends
Eco friendly and cozy yarn gets another look during this season. The cooler weather brings out the requests for cozy cottons, warm wools, and other natural fibers. Hemp, bamboo, and other upcycled yarn choices are also great options for projects this season.
Chunky textures for sweaters and blankets are a hit for the transitioning weather. Some great “chunky” texture stitches in crochet include:
- Bobble
- Cable
- Puff
- Waffle
- Basket Weave
- V stitch
- Moss
- Cluster
If you are looking for something a little different, maybe even consider a spin off of a granny square. Think hexagons, floral patterns, and modern colors.
Home decor starts changing as well. We start pulling out the blankets and changing decor to match upcoming days of celebrations and holidays. Themed throw pillows and afghans are always in style and requested in the fall (especially in cold weather regions).

Technology and Crochet
Technology has been assisting the crochet community for some time now, but I think more people recently are starting to see and learn more about it. Crochet apps, interactive patterns, upgraded, and engaging community platforms are reshaping how crafters discover and design crochet. I had never considered a “smart” hook but I’ve been considering one! So be sure to keep out for emerging technology that can help you in your crochet journey and choose the tools that best fit your life, budget, and make your crafting easier for you.
Self Care
Projects focused on self‑care (think weighted blankets, eye masks, and other mindful projects) are perfect for those chilly days where you want to get comfortable and relax. They make fantastic gifts for family and friends too! It’s even more meaningful if you made it yourself!
Crochet Communities
Lastly, crochet communities on Facebook, Instagram, Ravelry, etc are great places to get caught up on current trends as well. You can see what other creators are making in real time. Pinterest is another great place for Fall and other seasonal crochet inspiration. Be sure to set time limits on scrolling so you can stay focused on creating!
Summary
Whether you want to follow trends or not, it’s great to stay on top of what others in the crochet community are creating. I don’t typically jump on the trend bandwagon, but there are some that I would love to try myself and others I can live without! Don’t try and compare yourself to other creators (that’s not fair to yourself!) but look at their work more so for inspiration or if you’d like to try something unique created originally by someone else. It’s how we grow and level up our own skills. No matter what, remember that the best style and trends are the ones that YOU love.
What do you think about crochet trends? Do you get sucked in and want to make everything you see or is it just not your thing? Maybe a mix of both? Let us know in the comments!
